Call For Action: Realtors Could Lose their Independent Contractor Status

For the past few weeks we've been working on getting legislation passed that protects your right to work as an independent contractor. The bill passed unanimously through the State Senate and the State Assembly, but we need Gov. Murphy to sign the bill and he needs to hear from you.

 

This legislation—A6206—clarifies and protects real estate agents' ability to work as independent contractors in New Jersey, still needs to be signed by Gov. Murphy.

We need you to contact Gov. Murphy and urge him to sign A-6206—the letter is already written just CLICK HERE.

Without this legislation, you could lose the ability to work as an independent contractor and all the tax benefits that go along with it.

Gov. Murphy Signs E-Notary Into Law


Gov. Murphy signed a revised New Jersey Law on Notarial Acts which now authorizes electronic signatures.


Last year, e-notary services were authorized in response to COVID-19. New Jersey Realtors® supported allowing e-notary services on a more permanent basis and not just during a public health emergency.

The revised law permits notary publics to perform notarial acts using communications technology with evidence of a person's identity. The law went into effect on July 22.
